‘There is no greater feeling when you are looking back through your photos and realise the distance you have travelled, the journeys you have taken and the amazing experiences you have had. With a strong passion for travel and adventure becoming a geography teacher was an obvious choice. Before becoming a teacher I took myself off to Brazil for 3 months, where I worked on a community project with a drumming group. The idea of the group was to run workshops for kids from favelas (Shanty Towns) in the hope they would channel their energy into something positive instead of crime. My travels are just about to take me on a completely different journey as I prepare to undertake a 350mile trek across the Greenland ice-cap with a team of husky dogs. The purpose of the expedition is to raise awareness of polar science and the fragile world we live on. It has been organised by the son of Sir Vivian Fuchs a famous explorer/scientist: the motto of the Fuchs Foundation is ‘Inspiring Teachers, changing lives’. I hope that one day my stories will give my student the encouragement they need to go on their own adventure.’

It was great surf by day with fun social nights out with a mix of like minded active people – some of whom had never surfed before. ‘Cambodia is one of the happiest places I have visited; the people are always smiling despite their fairly recent horrific history of genocide carried out by the Khmer Rouge under the leadership of Pol Pot. Unfortunately, some visits are pretty upsetting with reminders of the terrible events all over the country, not just at the infamous Tuol Sleng Museum, a high school transformed into one of the many prisons and a centre to torture thousands of Cambodians, but also visible through the poverty, appalling roads and infrastructure. However on a positive note there are signs of improvement; tourism and private enterprises are on the increase. Angkor Wat and the other temples on the outskirts of Siem Reap are AMAZING! You can also find remote temples as there are so many, so you don't have to spend the day following the crowds and can enjoy them with more tranquility. I loved the Bayon which had hundreds of huge faces carved out of stone plus, the shopping was fantastic! Lots of markets which sell produce, craft wares and of course all the fake clothes and plenty of other copied rubbish! I loved it! I am even thinking about going back in the capacity of a teacher to be part of helping this struggling country recover from it’s destructive past.’

‘I’ve always wanted to have a go at Bob skeleton, and when I found the opportunity to in Lillehammer, Norway I just had to go! Not only was it more exhilarating than I imagined but it stirred a new passion and since then I’ve taken bob skeleton very seriously with high hopes for a career in this sport. I’ve recently been in a number of amateur competitions and aspire to be a professional in the future!’
